Rather than seek early detection and possible cure, these women would prefer to remain in the dark. Doctors were shocked by the findings from the study about women and cancer prevention, which was sponsored by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and presented in New York yesterday. "It absolutely flies in he face of common sense," said Dr. Douglas Laube, the college's past president and a professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. "This was the most startling finding for me. It's whistling in the dark," Laube said. "I think it's fear - fear of treatment and fear of what they have to go through if it's found.
